Creating illustrations is like a story. There is a beginning a middle and an end. After the first introduction and a good cup of coffee, the sketching phase follows. Here I find my challenge and I can lose my passion. Figure out what the subject is, what message is in the assignment and what it takes to make a good picture. Hereby I want to know who the target group is; a patient, an interested layperson or a fellow scientist or surgeon. Then the middle follows, working out the sketch. The foundation is there and I can apply my professional knowledge and expertise to arrive at an optimal figure, which is why it is important for every phase that there is a connection with the client. The interaction between my experience, the knowledge and skills of the client are important for fast and good results. At the end I put the finishing touches on the i. Feedback is processed and the figure is delivered according to specifications.
